Thoughts for the Day:
June 25th 2013
How much is my joy tied to my performance at work? How much
is it tied to the things I own or do not own? How much is it tied to money
itself, whether savings or debits? Where
indeed does my faith lie? Where indeed does my very existance get its worth? Is
that not what we are after: Worth?
To be blunt: What makes Tim happy? What makes Tim not happy?
How comfortable is happiness when things are going well, how
tragic and uncomfortable things are when things arent going well…but the
problem with that , means we do not want to suffer. And suffer we must if are
to be Christians. There it is; we don’t want to suffer…not like our Christ, not like
our Jesus, who was naked and hung on a tree. Whipped and spit on, mocked and
cursed, forsaken by his people, the ones he created, the ones he loved…no we
don’t want to suffer like this. It would hurt.
But if we are called to suffer, than how do we believe as
Christ did that there is much joy in suffering?
Society has not only tattooed our skin with comfort, it has
penetrated our hearts. Our bodies. Our minds. But Socitey is not to blame. We
are to live here. As Christians. We are not to blame culture, but to be
different, different in an aspect called living holy. Separated unto God.
Suffer we must, suffer we will, if in fact we live as
Christians here on this earth… if not we will be miserable. Un-effective for
Christ. ..
