Scorn

"behold, the Word of the Lord
is to them an object
of scorn;
they take no pleasure in it"
Jeremiah 6:10

The definition of scorn : the feeling or belief that someone or something is worthless or despicable; contempt

How many times do we stubbornly and rebelliously scorn the things of God? It isn't well with our souls in these times.

O but how glorious is the Word of God!

"The Law of the Lord
is perfect,
reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord
is sure,
making wise the simple;
the precepts of the Lord
are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord
is pure,
enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the Lord
is clean,
enduring forever;
the rules of the Lord
are true,
and righteous altogether.

MORE to be desired are they than GOLD,
EVEN MUCH FINE GOLD;
sweeter also than HONEY
and drippings of the HONEYCOMB."
Psalm 19:7-10

Not The Full End of You

"But even in those days
declares the Lord,
'I will not make a full end of you."
Jeremiah 5:18

Israel was unrepentant , however God wasn't fully going to destroy them.

God isn't out to screw us. He isn't out to completely make our lives miserable. The sin and unrepentant heart of Judah and Israel created their own misery.

We create our own misery at times, if not almost always. There are things outside of our control, but we can come to Lord in surrender and humility and repent and thus be healed.

It doesn't mean we will get that next sell or promotion or the new Lexus. But it means that we are in the fold of God and pressing into His grace. Glorious Grace.

'It is finished'

Jesus did not make an end to anyone, yet he brought Hope to ALL men.

Now, accept Him and follow.

Wash Your Heart

If your having wicked thoughts, don't ask God to cleanse your mind, but wash your heart."

Faithlessness

"Return, O faithless sons;
I will heal your
faithlessness."

And our response without pretense is:

"Behold, we come to You,
for You are the Lord our God."

Jeremiah 3:22

It would appear we are broken if we lack faith

Pretense

"Yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah did not return to me with
her whole heart,
but,
in pretense,
declares the Lord."
Jeremiah 3:10

The definition of pretense is such:

"an attempt to make something that is not the case appear true"

We do this alot. We say things like "oh God forgive me" and then turn around a second later and act the same way or do the same thing, etc. We are pretending.

When we truly repent, its with our whole heart, which produces newness and a clean heart / contrite spirit. This in turn leads to a true change and life alteration.

Other than that its just pretense and worthless.

The Essence of Sin

" for my people have committed two evils:
they have forsaken me,
the fountain of living waters,
and hewed out cisterns for themselves,
broken cisterns that can hold no water."

"They have made offerings to other gods and worshipped the works of their own hands."

"What wrong did your fathers find in me
that they went far away from me,
and went after worthlessness, and became worthless."

Here we see something that is difficult to understand. The moment you walk away from God, is the moment you walk into something else less than God. This is the essence of Sin. Rebellion. Pride. Selfishness.

Most of us don't think of us literally or even spiritually "forsaking or running away" from God. But in the essence of sin , that is exactly what we are doing / choosing. Its a choice

"Behold, I will bring you to judgment for saying, 'I have not sinned'."

"Know and see that it is evil and bitter for you to forsake the Lord your God; the fear of me is not in you, declares the Lord God of hosts."

"Have you not brought this upon yourself by forsaking the Lord your God, when he led you in the way? And now what do you GAIN by going to Egypt to drink the waters of the Nile? Or what do you gain by going to Assyria to drink the waters of the Euphrates?"
